Use of the MCA's computer systems is governed by the MCA's Information Security Policy and its subordinate policies and procedures. Failure to comply with the MCA's policies and procedures may result in disciplinary action and may be an offence under civil or criminal law. Security and performance of MCA systems are monitored. Activity logs may be used as evidence in cases of failure to comply with MCA policy. To obtain a copy of the relevant MCA policy and procedures please contact the CERS system support team.

The Maritime & Coastguard Agency collects personal information in order to create and maintain a CERS3 account on behalf of a person or organisation. The personal information collected may be used to contact you to verify your entries into the CERS3 system. This is done for the purposes of ensuring the information provided by the person or organisation is true and compliant under the terms of The Merchant Shipping Regulations, 2004. The personal information collected is only shared with our data processor and 3rd party host for the purposes of account creation and is stored securely throughout its lifecycle. The information will be used only for the length of time you have a CERS3 account and will only be retained for audit purposes once your account is deleted.
In addition, the information you supply to the CERS3 System as part of the voyage data is collected for the purpose of sending to SafeSeaNet but may also be shared with other government departments and third parties with necessary privacy protections in place.
